I have enjoyed helping people all my life which is why I obtained a Bachelor of Social Work degree in 1996 from Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. Due to personal history experienced as a child, I started my career in the social work field working to prevent child abuse/neglect, family reunification, long-term foster care, and adoptions. While working in these areas, I saw an extensive need for mental health services which increased my desire to help to a greater extent so I returned to college to obtain the necessary qualifications.
After graduating with a Master of Social Work from Missouri State University, I obtained licensure through the State of Missouri to be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I have been providing mental health counseling since March 2016 and have been fully licensed for the past four years (July 2016). I gained experience and additional knowledge as I practiced in various settings (e.g., private practice, hospital setting, group practice, substance abuse treatment). During this time, I also completed an EMDRIA approved Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training so I can provide EMDR therapy to help people overcome traumas they have experienced.
I practice in family care as I believe every aspect of a person’s life influences their mental health. I want people to feel comfortable to talk to me about any concern they have. To help, I use evidence-based therapy, care, and empathy to help guide my care to each person I see to ensure increased quality of treatment as well as increased accountability for the care I provide. My favorite saying? “I don’t treat crazy people–just people with problems and we all have them!”
A bit more about me.… I have been married for almost 40 years, have four adult children, and nine grandchildren. Although I was raised primarily in the south-central Missouri area, I currently reside in Cape Girardeau to be near most of my children and grandchildren. I love spending time with my family and friends, so weekends are often spent with them. In my spare time, I also love to read fantasy sci-fi books, paint via Bob Ross style with oil paints, and have numerous other crafting projects going (sewing, glass engraving, heat transfer vinyl, making epoxy cups, crocheting, floral crafts, and embroidery).
